KICK-OFF NETWORK EVENT

Nach der wochenlangen Planung war die Vorfreude auf das Kick-Off Networking Event am 20. Februar groß. Trotz des rassistischen Anschlags in Hanau, fanden viele der BIWOC* Community an diesem Abend zusammen und haben damit gezeigt, wie wichtig es ist, einen geschützten Raum für gegenseitige Unterstützung, Anteilnahme und Wertschätzung zu haben, von dem die Community in vielfältigen Bereichen profitiert.
Loubna Messaoudi – Founder, BIWOC* Rising – und Rhea Ramjohn – Founder, WA(i)VE – haben das in ihren Grußworten und ihrer Zusammenarbeit verdeutlicht. Rassismus ist kein neues Phänomen und es bleibt wieder in unserer Verantwortung nicht alles schnellstmöglich
unterm Teppich zu kehren. Wie wichtig es ist, die eigene Geschichte zu kennen und die Zukunft der Community mitzugestalten, zeigten an diesem Abend die Künstler*innen, indem sie ihre Geschichten sichtbar und spürbar gemacht haben.
Um den Black History/Future Month zu würdigen, haben wir ausschließlich Schwarzen Artists die Bühne zur Verfügung gestellt. Darunter waren Comedians und Poets wie Kate Cheka, Daddypuss Rex und okcandice, aber auch Rapperin Babiche Papaya und DJ Femi Oyewole von Black Brown Berlin. Im Herzen von Neukölln haben wir zusammen gelacht, als Kate Cheka und Daddypuss Rex von der deutschen Dating Szene und sensiblen Weißen Menschen gesprochen haben, haben uns mitreißen lassen bei okcandice bezaubernden Wörtern mit denen sie Liebe beschrieben hat, waren begeistert von Babiche Papayas Rapkünsten und konnten kaum stillsitzen, als Femi Oyewole das DJ-Pult übernahm.
Gemeinsam konnten wir uns sicher fühlen, fern von Diskriminierung und Hass. Because it was all love! Und dafür steht BIWOC* Rising. Wir sind da, um unsere BIWOC* Community zu empowern und zu unterstützen und das überall und vor allem auf dem Arbeitsplatz. Wir kämpfen dafür, dass BIWOCs* in unserer Gesellschaft sichtbarer werden und neue Strukturen aufbauen, jenseits von Rassismus und dem Patriarchat.
In diesem Sinne danken wir allen, die an dem Abend anwesend waren und uns supportet haben. Ein großes Dankeschön geht auch an Oyoun, die nicht nur die Location vor der Eröffnung zur Verfügung gestellt haben, sondern auch weitere Ressourcen mit einer Selbstverständlichkeit, die uns gerührt hat. After weeks of preparation, the anticipation for the Kick-Off Networking Event on the 20th was high. Despite the racist terror attacks in Hanau, many of the BIWOC* community came together and showed how important it is to have a protected room for mutual support, care and appreciation that the community can profit from in multiple areas.
Loubna Messaoudi – Founder, BIWOC* Rising – and Rhea Ramjohn– Founder, Waive – clarified that in their welcoming speech and in their cooperation. Racism is not a new phenomenon and it is our responsibility to not sweep everything under the rug. How important it is to know your own history and to shape the future of the community was demonstrated by the artists that evening, who made their stories visible and clearly noticeable.
In honor of Black History/ Future Month, our stage was available for black artists only. Among our artists were comedians and poets like Kate Cheka, Daddypuss Rex and okcandice, but also raper Babiche Papaya and DJ Femi Oyewole from Black Brown Berlin. In the heart of Neukölln, we laughed together when Kate Cheka and Daddypuss Rex talked about the German dating scene and sensible white people, were captivated by okcandice charming words with which she described love, were amazed by Babiche Papaya’s rap skills and couldn’t sit still when Dj Femi Oyewole took over the Dj booth.
Together we could feel safe, far away from discrimination and hate. Because it was all love! And that is what BIWOC* Rising stands for. We are there to empower and support the BIWOC* community everywhere and especially at the work place. We fight for BIWOC*s to gain more visibility and build new structures beyond of racism and patriarchy.
With this in mind, we thank everyone who was present and supported us that evening. A big thanks to Oyoun, who truly moved us by not only providing us with the location before their official opening, but also providing us with other resources in such a casual manner.
