Who are you?
I am a proud Black queer demifemme, embracing the richness of my identity. Beyond my roles as Community Manager and Coach, I lead RESET MOM, a healing circle dedicated to supporting Black girls and women with eating disorders. As a survivor myself, this work holds deep personal significance. Navigating the intersections of work and mental health empowers me, cultivating a sense of inclusivity and empowerment within our community.

What motivated your current path?
Between the beginning of the pandemic and the rise of the BLM movement in 2020 in Germany, I launched RESET MOM while still fighting my own eating disorders. Equipped with insights from inpatient treatment, a nutrition certification, holistic health knowledge, and coaching, I faced challenges in applying these tools to my own recovery journey alone. However, the pandemic and the movement reshaped my perspective, transforming the issue from an individual „me problem“ into a collective „us problem.“

My motivation is fueled by my journey of recovery and the insights gained along the way. For over two decades, my eating disorders provided a false sense of security day in and day out. By entering recovery, something lifted off my shoulders, unveiling a world of possibilities. What seemed daunting became my greatest triumph. RESET MOM enables me to cultivate a space of healing, empathy, and empowerment, drawing from my own experiences.

Tell us about your project…
RESET MOM (R.ecovery E.ating S.elf esteem E.motion T.angible M.ind O.ver M.atter) serves as an important healing circle, providing essential support to Black girls and women navigating the challenges of eating disorders and recovery. Unfortunately, the healthcare system still falls extremely short in adequately addressing these issues, particularly in meeting diverse cultural needs and combatting the intersection of racism with eating disorders.

Accessing precise care remains challenging for Black girls and women due to a shortage of specialized professionals. RESET MOM strives to counteract stigma by offering a safer space, healing circles, treatment guidance, and information to experienced therapists and coaches, ensuring firm support throughout the recovery journey.

Where can we find you?
RESET MOM hosts a weekly online healing circle. To join or contact me, simply send a message through IG or an email to the provided address with the subject „Hey Sis“. Additionally, stay updated on workshop dates and events by following the project on social media, where I share uplifting messages, affirmations, information and resources.

Through training programs, empowerment workshops, and a work-desk in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg, BIWOC* Rising is creating a new working culture – a working culture that transcends the white, homogenous, capitalist one that has been a core driver of gentrification and marginalization in Berlin.
